Lightspeed is a tech platform for hospitality businesses and a champion of the British hospitality industry. Building on the success of the previous year’s Dine Out Week campaign, this year, Lightspeed wanted to continue to uncover modern British dining habits, our campaign set out to uncover how Britain’s tastes have evolved over the past decade - and what’s actually influencing what ends up on our plates.
We commissioned independent consumer research to uncover how the UK’s dining habits and preferences had changed over the last 10 years. The findings revealed a nation caught between tradition and trend: while classic dishes like the Sunday roast remain firm favourites, Brits are increasingly putting their own spin on them, with unexpected ingredients, global flavours and viral food trends making their way onto our plates.
To spark a cultural conversation, we partnered with award-winning chef Sally Abé, to reimagine three quintessential British dishes: the Sunday roast, fish and chips, and the full English breakfast. Using the most popular twists revealed by our research, Sally created modernised recipes that showed just how much Britain’s food culture has evolved.
Sally and Lightspeed’s Ana Munoz also took to the radio to discuss how Brits are changing up classic dishes and what has been influencing our dining preferences in the last decade. The campaign sparked huge cultural debate, with coverage appearing in national titles such as The Daily Telegraph, The Independent, The Guardian, Metro, BBC Radio London.
